Each child is unique and a highly valuable gift of God. Exploiting a child for materialistic gains is nothing short of an egregious sin. According to the ILO, even in the 21st Century, when mankind is claiming to have reached great heights, about 168 million children are child labors and shamefully India is the country with the largest population of child labours. Isn't Right to life and dignity, the basic right of every child? Today, child labor has assumed such demonic proportions that it is quite difficult, if not impossible, for the govt. to tackle this problem singlehandedly. Therefore every individual needs to do his part. Eliminating poverty at the grassroot level seems the only viable option to tackle this rampant menace. Bringing a smile on each child's face should be the responsibility of everyone one of us. LET US PLEDGE TO  TO REPLACE THE BROOM WITH A PEN IN EVERY AFFECTED CHILD'S HAND.

THE WIND OF CHANGE IN INDIA’S FOREIGN POLICY

In the last 2 years, there has been a stark improvement in India’s foreign policy and even more so in its implementation, by maintaining the right balance between idealism and realism. Today India is an epitome of how a country can excel on the Global stage, without strictly adhering to methodological policies and rules or the Machiavellian concept of ‘lion and fox diplomacy’ or an expansionist vision. Indian foreign policy has shown the relevance of a humanist vision in diplomatic behavior. Be it showing sincere concern over global crises i.e. terrorism and environmental issues OR ‘conflict management’ and ‘crisis-management’ on various micro and macro issues OR winning the heart of public, it has excelled in every field. This shows the importance of considering foreign policy encompassing both cultural and political spheres as against a purely political and strategic view. Urging to world to think united, act united and to walk the talk has emerged to be the mantra of India’s policy. It has paved the way for public diplomacy which not only attracts FDI but also proves that it is not self-centred, though self reliant and modest yet effective. The result is before us- membership of the MTCR and probably NSG too. The time is right to press forward for a permanent membership of the UNSC too. 

French philosopher Rousseau quite appositely remarked : " A human being, though essentially good in nature, may deviate from his nature because of bad social environment which is there because of degenerate art and culture and artificial society".......Cinema and Literature should always have a positive progressive presentation because these are the two most potent tools to influence the society's mindset. Their role is to inculcate positive thoughts and creativity in the minds of the youth, rather than making a proud exhibition of  egregious acts and the darker side of society. Udta Punjab could have presented the same theme with a constructive approach but in its present form, it would only mislead the youth.

Once our life becomes soaked with the true spirit of service, we will feel that all our individual and family possessions, however abundant that may be, do not really belong to us. There are only the means to worship God in the form of society. Our whole life will then be an offering in the service of society. The upanishad say: GOD PERMEATES ALL CREATION. WHATEVER IS LEFT OVER BY HIM, AFTER OFFERING HIM, ENJOY ONLY THAT MUCH. DO NOT ROB WHAT BELONGS TO OTHERS. In Bhagavata Narada says: Take whatever is essential for bodily sustenance. To take more is an act of theft and deserves to be punished. Thus we are only trustees of society. It is only when we become trustees in the true sense that we can serve society best. OUR CULTURAL PRISM
One peak of the Himlayan vision of our culture, which none else in the world has so far aspired to climb, is the spirit of एकं सत् विप्रा बहुधा वदन्ति (Truth is one, sages call it variously). There is no equivalent expression in English to convey this beautiful sentiment. The word 'tolerance', which is often used to express this idea is very meek, it is just another word for sufferance. It implies n element of ego, which just tolerates other viewpoints without any love or respect for them. But our training has been one of respecting and even accepting other faiths and viewpoints as so many paths to reach the same truth.SAT SAT NAMAN

Incessant pampering of fundamentalism and appeasement, vote bank politics of of the political parties have subdued the voice of Shah Bano case, but they have not been able to subdue the progressive voice of Heena Zaheer Naqvi, Uttar pradesh's first women Qazi. Its time that the govt. should take initiative through healthy discourse for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code which will integrate the nation.
