JP GAVE INDIA ITS SECOND FREEDOM: EMERGENCY
"In the death of JP , the country has lost the gentlest and kindest of men and its conscience keeper. For generations now, Jayprakash acted as a compass to the nation's ship. It was he who made it possible for the country to emerge from the Emergency to the restoration of civil liberties and the rule of law" . ....................................MINOO MASANI
" He establised the sovereignty of the spirit over the recalcitrance of the body, the triumph of the spirit over the flesh, and carried to a successful conclusion the assertion of the revolutionary power of the people. Over 30 years and more , he stood like a colossus, immovable and unmoved in his conviction and faith in sampoorna kranti (total revolution ) which must transform the social and economic order and elevate man to a higher spiritual level . He represented par excellence the true spirit of India and gave himself in full measure in the service not only of his country, but of entire humanity. " ..............JUSTICE P.N. BHAGVATI
"Historical forces mould the course of events for a nation. JP was a man of vision and indomitable courage. The forces arraigned against him were forrmidable. What he achieved was a miracle. Had he not been on the scene, there would have been no Janata government at the centre or in some states. It would have been immensely satisfying if he had been allowed to die with the thought that the country was safe in the hands of its leaders. That is not the case. The greatest tribute that these leaders can pay to take a vow not to fight among themselves. But will they? For the moment many hypocrites who ignored and tortured JP in his life-time are today issuing cold and customary messages drafted by their paid secretaries". ...........COURTESY: SEARCHLIGHT, PATNA, OCTOBER 9, 1979
